A Story of a father
An 80 year old man
was sitting on the sofa in his housealong with his
together with his
45 year old highly educated son.
highly educated means knowledgeable, well informed, schooled.
Suddenly a crow
perched on their window.
a bird perches.
a bird sits, rests or lands.
The father asked his son,
"What is this?"
The son replied "It’s a crow".
A minute later
the father asked his son again,
"What kind of bird is this?"
The son said,
"Father, I just told you a minute ago,
it's a crow".
After a little while,
A little while later,
the old father again asked his son
a 3rd time, "What is this?".
This time an expression of irritation
irritation means annoyed, impatient,
or slightly angry
This time an expression of irritation
was felt in the son's tone
tone means
a mood, a feeling or attitude
This time an expression of irritation
was felt in the son's tone
when he said to his Father
with a rebuff,
"It's a crow, a crow".
rebuff means a sudden rejection
"Why do you keep asking me
the same question again and again,
I told you already 'IT IS A CROW'.
Are you not able to understand this?"
A year later,
after the old man
had passed away,
the son was looking through
his fathers old tattered diary.
tattered means
old, torn, in poor condition
As he was reading it
he came upon a page that read:
come upon / come across
to find something by chance
he came upon a page that read:
"Today my little son (age three)
was sitting on the sofa,
when he saw a crow
which was sitting near the window,
he asked me 8 times what it was,
and I replied to him all 8 times
that it was a crow.
Each time he asked me
the same question
I hugged him lovingly.
I did not at all feel irritated.
I rather felt affection
I instead felt fondness
for my innocent child.
affection is fondness, love,
tenderness, warmth
I rather felt affection
for my innocent child.
innocent means simple, naive,
or free from wrong.
