Different Moralities
In any population,
you are going to have…
In any society there will be….
a group of people who are
more skilled,
more educated
and more practiced
than average.
Let's call these people
"the upper class".
You are also going to have
a group of people who are
less skilled,
less educated
and less practiced
than average.
Let's call them
"the under class".
The upper class will naturally
accrue the power in society.
accrue:
accumulate,
collect,
build up,
mount up,
grow,
increase
The upper class will naturally
accrue the power in society.
For no other reason than
they are more capable
than the others.
For no other reason than…
- there may be more reasons
but the reason specified
is good enough.
the word capable means:
competent,
able,
efficient,
effective,
proficient,
accomplished,
adept,
experienced,
skillful,
talented,
gifted
The upper class will naturally
accrue the power in society.
For no other reason than
they are more capable
than the others.
Because the upper class got
their greater power and influence
through outsmarting
or outperforming others,
they will come to adopt ethical beliefs
that justify their position.
adopt ethical beliefs
embrace moral opinion
choose social views
they will come to adopt ethical beliefs
that justify their position.
…that give reason for their viewpoint.
Beliefs like…
You get what you earn.
If I can do it anyone can.
Your gains are incurred in return
for your behavior or achievements.
You are entitled to your position.
entitled :
believing you are deserving
Let’s call this way of thinking:
privileged morality.
Because the lower class lost their
power and influence
by being outsmarted
and outperformed,
they will come to adopt
ethical beliefs
that justify their position.
Beliefs like…
You should live for others
and not yourself.
People who are not privileged
deserve aid and charity.
One should give away one's
possessions to the less fortunate.
Let’s call this way of thinking:
deprived morality.
Privileged vs. Deprived
Master vs. Slave
These moralities
have been in tension
in every society
for all of recorded history.
in tension:
in strain,
in stress,
in strained relations,
in hostility,
These moralities
have been in tension
in every society
for all of recorded history.
Many political conflicts
and social conflicts
are side effects of the struggle
between these two moralities.
